Plans are underway for the establishment of a 10,000 barrels-per-day condensate refinery in Edo State, following a partnership agreement between the Edo State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
The refinery, projected to be completed within 24 to 36 months, will be located in Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas and is expected to significantly boost energy supply within Edo State and its environs.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, revealed that the refinery would produce about 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily when fully operational.
Governor Okpebholo made this known while hosting NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Downstream, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, and other top officials of the corporation at Government House, Benin City. He described the project as a major milestone under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the governor, the investment will open up employment opportunities, reduce poverty levels, and strengthen Edo State’s industrial capacity. He assured NNPC of the state’s readiness to provide land, Certificates of Occupancy, security, and all necessary support for the success of the project.
“Security will not be an issue. Edo State is open and safe for business,” the governor said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting investments.
In his remarks, Alhaji Dagazia said the refinery was designed as a long-term, sustainable project that would contribute to economic growth and industrial development in the state.
Similarly, NNPC’s Chief Downstream Investment Officer, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, said the project would elevate Edo State’s status as a strategic energy hub in the South-South while boosting investor confidence and job creation.
