The ongoing 5 day free medical and surgical outreach sponsored by Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Honourable Minister (State) of Labour and Employment, has been lauded as a model of altruism by well-intentioned Nigerians and Abians.
The 16th edition of the initiative which was flagged off yesterday, has so far seen over 500 individuals struggling with various health challenges benefitted from the initiative.
In a statement by Onyejeocha’s Media Adviser, Emameh Gabriel, hundreds of residents across Abia State and neighbouring states communities in Abia State, have so far benefitted from the initiative with three more days left.
Emameh explained that a key highlight of the day was the provision of eye surgery and treatments, including a range of surgical procedures for pile, fibroid, hernia surgeries and others to the participating communities.
Mr. Bethel Ejim, who arrived early to address his eye concerns, expressed his deep gratitude to God “for using Nkeiruka every year to attend to their medical and other needs.”
Mrs. Chinaza who had pile issue, expressed her joy in the outreach. She said, “the treatment gave her a relief and she was hopeful that will recover on time and to live a normal life again”.
For, Madam Tina Ezechi who also came for fibroid operation, said “the outreach was a life saving event, and only God will reward Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha”
Others who received eye care included Mr. Emma Orunwa, Mrs. Nzubechukwu, and Mrs. Miracle Anyika.
General doctors were also present to cater to individuals suffering from various ailments. Mrs. Mercy Obiesie, who accompanied her daughter scheduled for hernia surgery, took the opportunity to consult a doctor for herself as well. She expressed her heartfelt appreciation to God for blessing Isuochi with Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who “remains mindful of her roots”, and prayed for her “continued success”.
In another touching moment, the mother of a young boy named Chijioke Ugorji, who underwent successful hernia surgery, raised her hands in joy, thanking God for answering her prayers through the outreach program.
The Honourable Onyejeocha’s 16th medical outreach, according to her Media Adviser, “is more than just a series of consultations and procedures; it’s a beacon of hope, a chance for Abians to regain their health and embrace a brighter future.
He said, “with three more days left, its impact promises to reach even further, leaving a lasting legacy of care and compassion in its wake”.
