2 Judges Killed in Shooting at Iran’s Supreme Court Building
Tragedy struck in Iran on Saturday as two judges, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghisseh, were shot dead at the supreme court building in Tehran.
According to Iranian state media, the gunman, who was not identified, carried out the attack before taking his own life.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online website described the incident as a “planned act of assassination” and reported that the assailant was not involved in any cases before the supreme court.
The two judges were known for handling cases related to national security, espionage, and terrorism.
President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the attack and urged the authorities to act swiftly to identify the perpetrators. “I strongly urge the security and law enforcement forces to take the necessary measures as soon as possible by examining the dimensions and angles of this reprehensible act,” he said.
The attack has sent shockwaves through Iran, where attacks on judges are rare. The US Treasury had previously sanctioned Moghisseh in 2019 for overseeing unfair trials. Razini had also been targeted in a 1998 assassination attempt.
The incident is under investigation, and authorities have arrested several individuals in connection with the attack. The motive behind the killings is still unclear, but the attack has raised concerns about the safety of judges and the rule of law in Iran.
