The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Goes Online!

  

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, China Cultural Center in Nigeria (CCCN), supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of P.R. China and the Network of International Culturalink Entities, launched “Mid-Autumn Festival: A Moonmoment to Remember” online event which lasts from Sept 28th to Oct 5th, 2020.

The Moon Festival is a traditional Chinese Festival with a long history. People all over the world are gearing up to celebrate it on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. The day marks a reunion of families, friends and lovers, who gather together to celebrate the holiday and wish for a prosperous future. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival week also falls on Chinese National Day and Nigerian National Day, that is the 1st of October.
This year, however, due to the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global lockdown, festivities are going digital with an online cultural celebration. The online cultural week will include virtual reality tours, short videos, live streaming, and short online courses that revolve around the Festival and traditional Chinese culture.

   Virtual Exhibition During the Cultural Week 

Other unique performances which will be live-streamed include the Shared Moon, Shared Happiness performance by the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre that would incorporate traditional folk music with modern electronic dance music, the purpose of these performances is not just to showcase the depth and variety of Chinas unique cultural traditions but also to share the feeling of joy and celebration with the rest of the world.

                     Fun Facts 

A six-episode short video series called Fun Facts: 3 Ways to Enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival will share with people the history and customs of Mid-Autumn Festival. It will help people to have a better understanding of the festival and the culture and customs associated with the festival, which could be a gateway to learn more about Chinese culture.
