Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) High Court has order a halt in planned demolition exercise in Alaita community on the Airport Road in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) by the Federal Capital Development Authority ( FCDA).
The Judge, Danlami Zenchi on hearing the argument of both parties involved in the suit ordered that they maintain statuesque pending hearing and termination of the suit.
The counsel to the community, Barrister Ali Zubairu while speaking with journalists at the end of proceedings disclosed that the case was instituted by the people of Alaita, the indigenous Gbagi people of Alaita whose community was invaded on the 31st of August 2020 by agents of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
He further explained that they proceeded by marking some houses for demolition, in the ancestral home of people of Alaita who have neither been settled or compensated by government.
Zubairu maintained that they approached the court first as an interim measure to stop the defendants from proceeding with further acts of markings and consequent demolition pending the hearing and termination of the substantive suit.
Noting that he is pleased with outcome of the proceedings as the court granted their application without serious opposition from the defendants.
Earlier, the defending counsel, Barrister Betty Umegbulem who had no objections to the injunction of the court pleaded the maintenance of statuesque for both parties especially for resudents of the community not to erect new buildings while also urging for accelerated hearing.
The case was adjourned till November 30th and 1st December for for hearing of the complainants and closing arguments of the case respectively.
