Workers at the Imo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, December 17 2020, went wild with jubilation on sighting the former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Goodluck Opiah, at the Assembly Complex.
Opiah was the speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011, and represented Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency for eight years.
The former Speaker was at the Assembly complex to witness the presentation of the 2021 budget to the House members by the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Upon sighting Opiah, who now serves as the Coordinator for Oil and Gas Matters/SA to the Governor, the House of Assembly workers trooped out of their offices and with excitement sang songs, welcoming the former Speaker, whom they said was a good leader while he was in the house.
Speaking to House of Assembly correspondents, a worker in the House, Prisca Nwadike, said that Opiah’s belief in the welfare of House of Assembly workers during his speakership has not been rivaled.
She said: “Opiah was a compassionate Speaker whose leadership as a Speaker brought smiles on the faces of all staff in Imo State House of Assembly. He ensured that our welfare was well taken care of. He fought our battles and his office was accessed by almost all the staff.
“This is why his presence at the complex today excites us. Undoubtedly, he’s one of the best Speakers we have e worked with and we are proud of him, any day.”
