A poll was recently conducted by some members of the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has projected a win for a former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to pick the party’s presidential ticket.
The poll which took place ahead of the forthcoming general elections scheduled to hold in the first quarter of 2023, showed that the former member of the upper legislative chamber is set to beat the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Sokoto State Governor, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido for the much coveted ticket.
Conducted by some youths within the PDP, which called itself THE CREDIBLE VOICE whose membership is spread across all the six geo-political zones of the country, the outcome indicated that Kwankwaso scored a 68 per cent of the polled survey.
According to Gambo the poll was carried out in major states of Taraba, Oyo, Kaduna, Enugu, Kogi, Zamfara, Imo, Ekiti, Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states, where most PDP members expressed their preferences for Kwankwaso above others.
Kwankwaso is said to have defeated likely rivals jostling for the ticket of the party such as Atiku who came a distant second polling 22 per cent with Tambuwal coming third with 9 per cent of total votes polled.
The Coordinator of THE CREDIBLE VOICE, Mr. Ismaila Gambo stated that the poll was carried out between November and December last year and that it involved some youths within the party from across the 36 states making up the country.
“The survey was conducted by our organization with a view to helping our party make the right choice that would ensure that the PDP stages a comeback to power come 2023.” Gambo said.
The Zamfara based politician who disclosed this recently in Abuja stated that the group arrived at the decision using some critical indices such as age, track records of achievements, grassroots appeal, public perception of the affected individuals and educational attainments.
“When we conducted the poll, most youth members of the PDP scored the former governor highly citing the numerous strides that were recorded when he was the governor of the commercial city state of Kano.
“It is to his record that Kwankwaso deployed the resources of the state to provide the much needed infrastructural development of Kano. You will agree with me that Kano now wears a new look. Also, we can forget the numerous programmes aimed at human capital development that he has continued to carry out in and out of power,” Gambo stated.
Gambo also cited the record of transparent leadership, which the former governor has continued to maintain since leaving office, saying “As we speak with you today, Kwankwaso remains one of the very few former governors who have never had any kind of brush with the various anti-corruption agencies
While maintaining that the exercise was credible, he stated that the outcome reflected the preference of most members of the party across the country, particularly the youths whom he stated yearn for a change that would reflect generational power shift and competence, which he stated Kwankwaso represents.
