Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba are to produce Afro-Futuristic Sci-fi Anime Series

When the movie Black Panther, an Afro-futuristic sci-fi hit the movie cinemas – it became a huge global sensation. Beyond its financial success, the excitement of the movie played a huge role in connecting more blacks in the diaspora to the African continent. Such is a great emphasis that the African world needs more movies like the Black Panther to help rebrand the image of Africa and black people.

Well, it looks like that will be a continuous trend as legendary actor Idris Elba and his wife, Sabrina Elba are set to executive produce a new Afro-Futuristic Sci-fi Anime Series. The Elbas animated series will be featured on Crunchyroll, one of the biggest anime-streaming services out there.

The couple’s first series will be titled “Dantai” and to be produced by both Elba and Sabrina’s production companies, namely Green Door PIctures and Sabrina’s Towel Pictures respectively. As reported by Crunchyroll, “Dantai” will be set in an Afro-futuristic city whereby a rise in biotechnology causes a huge class divide between the halves and the have-nots. The two stars from each side of the divide will be set against each other in a dramatic play that will explore equality and kinship within a morally bankrupt society.

In a statement to Variety, Idris Elba said, “ We’re really excited to be announcing this deal on our first anime. We’re both fans of the genre and see a huge opportunity to create something unique for a powerhouse like Crunchyroll.”

The stories of “Dantai” are projected to bring new experiences in the world of superhero movies and a huge representation of the African world.
