Gaddafi Ibrahim Tanko

When AVM Muhammadu Alhaji Muhammad, a retired Military officer was appointed as the fourth Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) he was Not under the Illusion that the job at hand was going to be an easy task.

There is no denying the fact that AVM Muhammad, Inherited an agency that was filled with Mutual Distrust amongst Members of staff, Poor Relationship with the Mother Ministry, Lack of effective Response Mechanisms, The Height of it all was the cat and Mouse relationship that hitherto existed between the Agency and the National Assembly.

In fairness to the Current Director General the challenges so mentioned has to a large extent been Tackled and other Notable Achievements recorded prominent amongst them is the Improvement in response Time to emergency Situations.

Also Worthy of Note is the commitment of the Director General to Building the Human Capacity Of Staff and Making available the Necessary Tools and Resources which are Condition precedent to Effective Performance and Achieving The Desired results.

The Recent Successes Recorded By the Agency in the Just Concluded Operation Eagle Eye a Program usually organized by the Agency In collaboration with the Federal Roads safety Corp so as to Reduce crashes to the barest Minimum during the Ember Months which was hugely Successful compared to the recent years is a pointer to the AVM’s Meticulousness and Astute Leadership panache.

The Era of having to subject our internally displaced Persons to protests Before sending them relief Items has been Consigned to the Dustbin of history as efforts are been made to serve them with Consumables and other related items Monthly under the Emergency food intervention in the North East.

The Resuscitation of the Agency’s air wing which was Deliberately Rendered Comatose By the Immediate Past Administration of Engineer Mustapha Maihaja, is heart warming and Commendable..

As AVM Muhammad, Strives to Put NEMA on a Higher Pedestal of service Delivery, Relevant Stakeholders Must Not Rest On there Oars as Disaster Management Is everyone’s Business.
