INT’L WOMEN’S DAY: WHAT MEN CANNOT DO, WOMEN CAN DO BETTER

After weeks of troubles, frustrations, extortions , delay, lost of time and energy with the Male Mechanics, I met this female Auto Technician who finally resolved my car’s Air Conditioner fault at last.

There was no referral, I drove to a workshop; KIDA “A” Auto Fleet Technical Services Ltd, at Jahi on Friday. I asked the first contact I met and demanded for a technician that works on AC. Next, I heard him yelling “Grace, Grace, Grace, them de look for you”. Grace came around I then asked if the guy heard me well, he said yes, she is the only one who works on AC in the service centre.

We explained to Grace what we thought was wrong, she directed us to repack the 🚘 so, we did.

She diagnosed the car and discovered the fault. Within 15 minutes, the fault was fixed and the car AC returned to factory setting.

I was sitting under the canopy of anacardium occidentale ( Cashew tree) if you like when Grace came to inform me that she was done. I asked how much was my bill, she said N9k but my driver gave her N6k after bargaining

I had little discussion with her and she explained her passion for the job she is doing though not without challenge and discrimination anyway. I gave her words of encouragement and seek her consent to take this photograph with her which she obliged.

The essence is that if you are in Abuja and have issues with your car Air Conditioning system, pls visit KIDA “A” Auto Fleet Technical Services Ltd and ask for Grace for solution.

If you are coming from Banex heading towards Kado take you right at the Junction before Next Cash and Carry.

  1. Really interesting post!

Thanks for highlighting Grace and her superb work in a traditionally male-dominated forum. I just find it ironic (and this being #internationalwomensday) that after doing such an excellent job, Grace was STILL put in the position of bargaining for her payment. If she did should a great job, shouldn’t she be compensated fully (and maybe even tipped) well?

    Just a thought.
