Bandits Attack Kaduna Airport, Repelled By Troops

Nigerian troops have foiled an attempt to attack Kaduna International Airport on Friday morning.

Solacebase reports that the airport has been attacked twice over the past two weeks by bandit, whereby about 9 of the abducted victims in the first attack were released two days ago after the payment of over N5.5m ransom.

A source told Solacebase that the Air Traffic Controller sighted the armed bandits on motorcycles in a large number by the fence of the airport close to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in the early hours of Friday and immediately alerted the authority.

‘’They tried to invade the airport around 7.55 am this morning when they were sighted and the military was notified in good time,’’ said the source.

The source said the arrival of the ground troops and the Nigerian Air Force helicopter prevented the bandits’ attack.

Our source noted that the helicopter confirmed sighting the bandits who dispersed in a different direction with the arrival of the troops.‘

’As I speak to you now the military are everywhere around the airport as many of the staff are afraid to go back into their offices.’’

‘’The staff have been complaining about the insecurity at the airport but the management is not taking it serious before the first and second attack by the bandits over the past two weeks, there is no military presence except the situation of this morning when they were alerted.’’

”Incidentally, those that were released by the bandits two days ago said their abductors told them before their release that they would still attack the airport terminal.”
