Arewa Group Organises Security Conference In Abuja

A group, Arewa Youth Council (AYC), had at the weekend organised Arewa Youths Leadership and Security Conference in honour of late Sir Ahmadu Bello for his role in nation building and promotion of peaceful co-existence in Nigeria.
In his address, president of the group, Ambassador Dogo Shagari explained that the theme of the conference “Insecurity Insurgency and poverty in Nigeria: The Boko Haram and banditry North in Perspective” is apt at this time of high rate of insecurity in the country.
He said the North is now the epicenter and theatre of violence from Boko Haram to farmers/herders conflict, banditry, kidnappings, ethno-religious conflicts, cattle rustling, noting that the country is confronted with a crisis that is unparalleled in it’s history.
The President added that to stem the tide of the rising menace government at all levels and stakeholders must urgently begin to depopulate the pool from which youngsters are recruited into violence, the president added that it’s time for those who love the North to come out and begin the Salvage mission.
Shagari stated that of the 19 northern states and the FCT, only Kwara State and the FCT are relatively peaceful or have the lowest rate of insecurity as all the other 18 states are inflamed by one form of violence or the other.


The Guest Speakers, Dr Ahmed Rufai and Alh Umaru Bako who spoke on the topic “Youths as Catalyst for promoting peace in Northern Nigeria” harped on solutions to the rising Insecurity and poverty in Northern Nigeria and the role of young people in providing lasting peace.

The co-chairman of the occasion HRH Chief Engr Jude Eze (Igwe Agbarakaka 1 of Ugwunagbo community) Nsukka LGA Enugu State emphasized on the importance of unity while appreciating the efforts of the leadership of the AYC, even as he added that he looked forward for a more enriching youth conference.

The chairman of the occasion, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Prince Hon A.B Ahmad in his message reiterated that to change a policy one must be part of the policy makers and to change a decision one must be part of the dicision making process, hence the need for young people to be actively engaged in all political processes.

On his part, the FCT coordinator of the AYC Mallam Abdullahi Bilal, appreciated the level of compassion, resilience tolerance and bridge building spirit of the executive governor of Enugu State, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, over the rebuilding of the two Mosques in Muslim community in Nsukka while urging other leaders to emulate the governor just as he called for interaction across different faiths.

The representative of the governor of Borno State, Umaru Zulum,Hon Abba Jatau applaud the leadership of the AYC and pray that the AYC will continue in it quest of rediscovering the north that is united, progressive and a home of all people of goodwill.
