The third son of the former Libyan leader Muarmmar Gaddafi, Saadi Gaddafi has been released from prison – he has been in prison since 2014.
Sa’adi was a professional footballer who played in the Italian league. He also served as the commander of Libya’s Special Forces before his father was killed in 2011 by NATO backed rebel groups.
After the collapse of his father’s regime, Sa’adi crossed the border to Niger where he was arrested and later extradited back to Libya. He was accused of commiting crime against protestors during the 2011 uprising and aslo a murder case incident involving a Libyan football coach. However, he was declared not guilty of all crimes. In a statement, the Libya’s Government released a statement stating that it hoped Saadi’s release would foster unity in the country.
Upon his release, Sa’adi Gaddafi boarded a private jet to Istanbul, Turkey. Libya has been in a chaotic state since 2011 and just recently, Gaddafi’s oldest son, Saif al-Gaddafi, lemented on the sad current situation of his once prosperous country.
