Hundreds of aggrieved Women in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State have barricaded Zaria- Sokoto to protest ramparts banditry attacks and sexual on women folk in communities.
The women stormed the highway and blocked motorists to and from Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi state from flying.
Eye witness, one Zainab, passenger coming from Kano to Zamfara trapped on the road, told journalists lamented the hardship went through as a result of the protest.
“Travellers on the road were delayed for several hours , while others had to abandoned their vehicle and trek for several kilometres through farms to get to out of the protesting women”, She said.
According to her, the Women were protesting constant invasion of their communities by armed bandits in the area.
Also commenting a source, lamented that women were subjected to raping and different kind of humiliation by armed bandits who were taking field day operations in the area.
“Majority of our women kidnapped were subjected to sex abuse and no one was safe or free, we are in total fear”, She said.
According to the source, there was no security presence in the area despite rampant of banditry attacks “We have no option other then to resorted to protest and blocked the road as a means to registered our grievances to the relevant authorities”.
When contacted the Zamfara State police command public relations officer SP Muhammad Shehu said police has waved into the matter and dispersed the protesting women and the road was opened.
