A civil society organisation, National Conscience Group (NCG), has called on former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi, to heed the clarion call to national service and initiate immediate steps to declare interest in contesting the 2023 presidential election.
The group says should Mr Ameachi fail to declare his presidential interest, it would amount to him being grossly unpatriotic at a time when the country that is enmeshed in various socio-economic challenges needs his services the most.
The group, through its spokesperson, Hon. Jubril Oche Ekwote, rising from a press conference in Minna, Niger State on Monday, said it would be a monumental disappointment if Ameachi refuses to answer the clarion call by over 150 million Nigerians who are seriously yearning for his leadership.
“For Nigeria not to be at crossroads come 2023, a man with the requisite courage, know-how is needed to step in for consolidation and aggressive development as a man with conscience, integrity and foresight is about to bow out.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has done his best for the country. He came in when all seems to have decayed and irredeemable but he tried his best to revive, build and strengthen critical infrastructures and laid foundation for national growth and prosperity. There is need for a man with vision, know-how, ideology and midas touch to take over from President Buhari for consolidation and completion of Nigeria’s journey to the promise land.
“That man that will take Nigeria to the promised land is Rt. Hon. Rotimi Ameachi.
“We weighed and assessed many leaders and Hon. Ameachi towers above all other aspirants in the presidential race.
“He has broken the glass ceiling in terms of national acceptability, developmental antecedents, credibility and competence for the presidential job,” the group said.
The group spokesperson, Hon. Ekwote explained that Rotimi Ameachi had paid the price for his party, the APC to be where it is today, saying he invested in the party and has staked his head and neck for it from the begining, adding that he was the arrow head of the change that came on board in 2015.
