The Taraba State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, has reacted to the video trending on the social media, of the threats to Christian’s, calling for religious war in the state if a Muslim is not allowed to govern the state come 2023 Elections.
The state chairman of CAN, Rev. Isaiah Magaji Jirapye disclose this in a Press statement issued to journalists.
He said that CAN observe with dismay the threats on Christians in Taraba State and attempt to instigate religious unrest from some Islamic clerics from across the country.
“CAN is not participant in a partisan politics, but has observed with dismayed the threats on Christians in Taraba State and an attempt to instigate religious unrest from some Islamic Clerics from across Nigeria.
“CAN in Taraba state and indeed well meaning Nigerians are in great shocked that a purely political party affairs and activities could be given a religious colouration and draws such segregation capable of destabilizing the entire nation.
According to him, the message in the video clips gave the impressions that APC belong to the Muslims, the claimed which is very wrong and indeed a lie.
“There are both Christians and Muslims in all the political parties. This can be proven by all and the records are their.
“How did these people come to a conclusion that Taraba is 65% Muslim and 35% Christians. What is the source of their statistics. We could have loved to go down the memory lane but because it is coming from outsiders, we count it as ignorance.
“Taraba State since inception has been governed by Christian while the Muslims have the Deputy Governor slot. Why the miss information and even blaspheming Christians by using insulting words such as “Masu bauta wa gunki and Arna”
“CAN viewed all the several videos as calculated plots to set the state on crisis by outside forces who are not happy with the peace Taraba is enjoying.
He pointed out that Taraba state has a long-standing history of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence amongst Christians and Muslims even in politics.
“CAN cannot accept anyone from whatever disguise to threatened and intigate crisis just to see the state destroyed and in ruin as they did in other places.
“The messages of these cleric stand condemnable by all reasonable individuals.
“We called for their immediate arrest and questioning on why they are interested in setting up Taraba in flame.
“Our tolerance has been the reason we are still exempted from the religious carnage ongoing in some states.
He urge the APC to settle their party issues without bringing religion into it, adding that politics is not religion.
“It’s a game of numbers. People should decist from using religion to win presumed public sympathy.
He call on the security agencies and the Federal government to expedite actions and apprehend and prosecute the individuals on the videos before they throw Taraba state and indeed Nigeria into avoidable bloodshed saying that Clergy Men ought to be preaching peace and tolerance not hateful sermon and promoting politics of religion.
“Leadership is from God. Politics is a game of majority. Anyone with the majority wins the day what bring religion in to it.
“It is uncharitable and unacceptable to threaten the peace of a State with violence if your religion is not given the opportunity to rule the State. Politics is a game of numbers.
“Furthermore if anything happens to believers in the state and especially Senator Emmanuel Bwacha they will be held accountable – he said.
