…As Abiola Boasts Of 1993 Victory
By Progress Godfrey, Abuja
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a certificate of return to its presidential candidate, Mr. Kola Abiola and 21 governorship candidates.
Kola Abiola who is the son of late Moshood Abiola defeated three others in the June 5 primaries held in Abuja.
Speaking during the presentation of certificates to the candidates yesterday in Abuja, the National Chairman of the PRP, Dr. Falalu Bello, said the party which is wrongly perceived to be Northern, has fielded a Western presidential Candidate to offer purposeful leadership to Nigerians at all levels.
Bello stated that in a free and fair contest, the PRP would win the 2023 general elections.
“A party hitherto perceived to be a northern party is fielding a Yoruba presidential candidate (Kola Abiola) and it is by choice not by imposition. He scored more votes than all other presidential aspirants and he won across the states and the FCT. Kola is not a Yoruba candidate but a national candidate and a Nigerian candidate.
“In the 2023 general elections, our party is going to contest guber elections in 21 states as well as the presidential position,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abiola said the PRP will bring change and offer youths opportunities.
He noted that it would be 30 years in 2023 since his late father won the presidential election, stating that “there is going to be a repeat in 2023.’’
“It reminds me of 1993. A lot of people came out for the first time to vote because of MKO. We are going to have a repeat of that in 2023.
“If we could win it then, we should win it now,’’ he said.
He said that the number of delegates goes to show that the PRP is a national party present in every part of the country, adding the party has made history with the number of candidates vying for different offices.
“This is the beginning of the future of Nigeria. I have proven and we have shown collectively that we are a national party.
“Everybody is surprised that we had 3625 delegates as opposed to PDP’s number of delegates. What we have done is to show that we are present in every local government in Nigeria, that is how come we have those numbers.
“We have over 500 candidates vying for offices. In the history of this party, this is the largest,” Abiola said.
Among the 21 candidates who were presented certificates of return are a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Usani Usani (Cross Rivers State) and Alhaji Salihu Yakassai (Kano State).
