Enthusiastic constituents of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, comprising diaspora groups, community leaders and grassroots supporters, are intensifying mobilisation efforts for his re election, citing his impactful representation in the Senate and strong first term performance.
The growing momentum was evident over the weekend as more than 2,000 supporters gathered in Calabar South for a mega rally organised by the Nigeria Diaspora Business Network USA in collaboration with Pillar of Equity.
The rally, held at Government Primary School, Mayne Avenue, also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Edet Otu and Senator Ekpenyong, drawing party faithful, community leaders and residents in a show of support for the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking at the event, Governor Otu, represented by Senator Ekpenyong, appreciated the diaspora community and grassroots supporters, describing the turnout as a sign of confidence in continuity and purposeful leadership.
“This overwhelming show of support is a clear testament that our people believe in progress. We remain committed to delivering impactful legislation, infrastructure and economic opportunities for Cross River South,” Ekpenyong said.
He highlighted ongoing projects including the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway and key road networks such as Idundu, Uyanga, Oban Ekang and Adiabo Eseku roads, noting their importance to economic growth and connectivity.
In his remarks, President of NDBN USA, Ekeng Henshaw, said the endorsement followed a careful assessment of leadership performance at both federal and state levels. He added that the diaspora remains committed to supporting development through investment, expertise and global partnerships.
The rally featured music, coordinated displays of party support and participation from women groups and persons with disabilities, reflecting the party’s grassroots strength in the state.
Across the district, supporters say Ekpenyong’s legislative efforts and constituency projects have improved livelihoods and strengthened confidence in his leadership.
Community leaders and youth groups have continued to organise engagements to build wider support, expressing optimism that sustained mobilisation will translate into success at the polls.
Observers note that the rising support signals early political momentum in Cross River South, with many positioning Ekpenyong as a key figure complementing the efforts of Governor Otu in advancing the region’s development agenda.
