Two hundred and fifty elderly citizens in Kogi State have received financial assistance under the second batch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The beneficiaries, aged 65 years and above, were drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State. The initiative was announced in a statement from the media office of the Kogi State First Lady on Tuesday.
At the presentation ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja, Senator Tinubu was represented by Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, wife of Kogi State Governor.
She revealed that the nationwide scheme will disburse ₦2 billion across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The RHI Coordinators in the 36 states, the FCT, and Defence and Police Officers Wives’ Association (DEPOWA) have each received ₦50 million, from which ₦200,000 will be disbursed to each beneficiary today,” the First Lady stated.
She emphasized that the funds are intended to support elderly citizens as they navigate the challenges of retirement and old age. Beneficiaries will also receive free medical check-ups and other essential items.
“This programme is designed to support the welfare of our elderly citizens annually,” she noted, adding that veterans under DEPOWA are also included in the initiative.
The First Lady urged the senior citizens to prioritize their health by participating in regular medical screenings.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme aims to enhance the well-being of older Nigerians and is part of broader efforts to address their financial and healthcare needs.
