The Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Lawrence Etta, has expressed confidence that Cross River State is determined to make a remarkable impact at the 2nd Niger Delta Games.
Speaking at the sidelines of the regional sporting event, which kicked off yesterday in Edo State, Etta said, “We are poised to make Cross River proud. Our athletes have trained hard, and we are ready to compete with excellence and sportsmanship.”
He highlighted the state’s preparations, noting that rigorous training, proper facilities, and strategic planning have been put in place to ensure the athletes perform at their best. “We have invested in both the physical and mental readiness of our teams. This is a moment for Cross River to showcase talent, discipline, and dedication,” he added.
Etta revealed that the state contingent comprises 297 athletes drawn from the 18 local government areas, who will participate in all 16 sports featured in the Games. “All our athletes are Cross Riverians. We appreciate the NDDC for insisting that all participating athletes must be indigenes of their states. This is imperative to achieving the goal of the Games, which is to discover, groom, and expose local talents to the global limelight,” he stated.
He further emphasized the importance of teamwork and community support, urging residents and stakeholders to rally behind the athletes as they represent the state. “Every medal won will reflect the hard work of our athletes and the collective spirit of the people of Cross River,” Etta said.
The 2nd Niger Delta Games, which brings together participants from across the region, is expected to be a high-profile sporting event aimed at promoting unity, talent development, and healthy competition among the participating states.
Etta concluded by assuring that Cross River State is fully prepared to demonstrate its sporting prowess and leave a lasting impression at the Games.
