60 Million Nigerians Gamble Daily, Says Cross River Lottery DG
The Director-General of Cross Rivers State Lottery and Gaming Agency, Michael Eja, revealed that approximately 60 million Nigerians engage in daily gambling. Speaking at the launch of sports betting platform Woskybet in Abuja, Eja stated:
“The betting industry is worth about $1 billion in Africa. Lagos state alone generated $243 million in revenue last year. Gambling is coming up huge, and people are beginning to understand its essence.”
Eja highlighted Nigeria’s gambling industry value:

“We’re doing over N500 to N600 billion in revenue, with 150 million people in the country. About 60 million Nigerians gamble daily, but 90 percent of that market remains untapped.”
On the industry’s impact:
“The gaming industry sells hope, aids wealth redistribution, creates jobs, and contributes revenue for nation-building.”
Woskybet’s Director of Operations, Nurudeen Idrees, emphasized:
“Gambling is a growing industry creating jobs for youths. It’s a game of luck; players can win or lose. When customers win, their money is 100 percent guaranteed.”
