7 Victims Rescued From Auto Crash Scene In Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Service Agency has rescued seven male victims from the scene of an accident involving two petrol tankers at Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso.

 

Special Adviser on Fire Reform/ Chairman Fire Services Agency, Dr Moroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident, said the victims who suffered minor injuries were taken to Bowen Teaching Hospital by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogbomoso division for medical attention.

Akinwande added that vehicular movement was restored back to the road after the incident and normal daily activities in progress in the area.

According to Governor Seyi Makinde’ special adviser, the fire incident was reported at exactly 13:15hrs through telephoning by one Mr. George Ogunlade that a tanker was on fire.

He said fire personnel led by CFM Oladejo Kola swiftly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident.

“On arrival, it was two trucks, one loaded with grains (maize) and other with unidentified chemicals collided with each other, engulfed by fire.

“The agency’s officers swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the truck loaded with grains.

“The fire was completely extinguished and it was only one with chemical affected by fire while the second truck was saved by the fire service”, he said.

Also, an early Tuesday morning fire destroyed six rooms and other valuables at Ogbere Moradeyo in the Oremeji Area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Yemi Akinwande who confirmed the incident, said the it was reported at exactly 05: 55hrs on Tuesday through telephone.

According to Akinyinka, immediately the address was taken, firemen led by CFS Adesina Olusoji promptly deployed to the place .

On getting to the scene of the fire incident, the personnel discovered that a private residential building of six rooms was engulfed by fire and “our officers swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings.

“The fire was jointly extinguished with Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command and lecture on fire prevention was delivered by the Officer in charge.

“No casualty was recorded and the caused of the fire was traced to be indiscriminate dropping of cigarette stub by one of the occupants,ignited to nearby combustibles and set the building on fire.

“The building was severely affected by fire and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the agency,” the general manager said.

Meanwhile, Akinwande has advised the public to be conscious of fire, particularly as in the ’ember months’.

He also emphasised the importance of having fire service emergency lines handy.

He also urged households to install fire extinguishers in their respective buildings to prevent fire incidents.

Akinwande also urged the people to report fire incidents early and contact the emergency lines of the agency via 08067439223 and 08054353501 or 615 in case of emergency.
