The chairman of the Ibeju-Lekki council area of Lagos, Abdullahi Sesan-Olowa, has urged operatives of the Community Security Intelligence Network to protect public infrastructure and safeguard lives and property in the area.
Mr Sesan-Olowa gave the charge on Tuesday during an interactive session with the operatives, also known as the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps, at the council secretariat.
The meeting was organised to strengthen security consciousness and promote effective community-based security operations.
The chairman described protecting lives and property as a prerequisite for attracting investment and promoting sustainable development in the area.
He restated the need for professionalism, dedication, discipline, and commitment among the operatives in discharging their responsibilities.
He also underscored the importance of community-based security structures in maintaining peace, protecting residents and strengthening the overall security architecture of the local government area.
He said the area’s growing profile as an investment hub and business destination in Lagos State required a more effective security network to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
According to him, the operatives, entrusted with safeguarding the area, must demonstrate integrity, vigilance, accountability, and respect for human rights in carrying out their assignments.
“Professionalism, discipline and adherence to established operational guidelines must remain the guiding principles of engagement with residents and other stakeholders. Harassment, intimidation of residents and extortion of any kind are not part of your mandate,” he said.
He urged the operatives to strengthen their intelligence-gathering capacity, maintain effective communication and improve collaboration with conventional security agencies.
He said such cooperation would help identify security threats early and ensure timely intervention across communities in the local government area.
