Chukwueze Rescues Milan, Send-off Newcastle From Champions League

On a dramatic night at St James’ Park, it was Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze who came off the bench to score with his first touch and send AC Milan into the Europa League.

Chukwueze’s goal in the 84th minute was a hammer blow to Newcastle, who had been hoping to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in their history. The Magpies had taken the lead through Joelinton in the 33rd minute, but Christian Pulisic equalized for Milan just before halftime.

With the score tied at 1-1, both teams were desperate for a winner. Milan manager Stefano Pioli made a triple substitution in the 72nd minute, bringing on Chukwueze, Noah Okafor, and Luka Jovic. The move paid off immediately, as Chukwueze scored with his first touch after a brilliant passing move involving Okafor and Jovic.
