By Omonu YG Nelson

Anyigba, Kogi State – [23 December 2023] In a display of remarkable honesty, Dr. Ugbedeojo Nelson Peter, a senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), has returned the sum of ₦5.85 million mistakenly deposited into his bank account.

According to Peter, the unfamiliar funds, originating from someone named Hassan Abdullahi, appeared on 20th December. Despite the potential temptation, Dr. Ugbedeojo promptly initiated efforts to return the money on 23rd December.

“The money is not mine, so I’m not supposed to tamper with it,” Dr. Ugbedeojo told The Summit Post in an interview today. “The natural thing to do is look for the owner and return it. Dr. Ugbedeojo’s unwavering commitment to returning the funds not only reflects his personal values but also shines a positive light on Prince Abubakar Audu University and the academic community as a whole. His actions deserve high praise and serve as an inspiration for all of us to prioritize honesty and integrity in our daily lives.

Dr. Ugbedeojo’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of honesty and ethical conduct, especially in today’s complex financial landscape. His measured approach to rectifying the situation highlights the need for clear guidelines and expert assistance when dealing with unexpected financial occurrences.

This incident also raises questions about the vulnerabilities inherent in digital financial systems. The ease with which such large sums can be mistakenly transferred underscores the need for robust security measures and clear communication channels for rectifying errors.
