China, Nigeria Partner to Accelerate Economic Growth Through Innovation

The Economic and Commercial Counselor, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, Wang Yingqi, has revealed that his country and Nigeria are joining forces to develop new quality productive forces, a concept centered on innovation-driven productivity and high quality. This partnership aims to propel both nations towards sustainable economic growth.

He stated this on Monday, March 18, 2024 at a one-day seminar jointly organised by China Media Group (CMG) and University of Abuja. The seminar is themed: “Enhancing China-Africa cooperation in new Quality Productive Forces to realize high”

The dialogue was also held against the backdrop of the Two Sessions, China’ s Annual Legislative meeting, in March and the 9th FOCAC Summit to be held in Beijing, later later in the year.

According to Wang Yingqi, “the focus lies in creating advanced industries while modernizing traditional ones for increased efficiency and environmental friendliness. China’s collaboration with Nigeria leverages their existing economic ties to foster technological advancements and infrastructure development.

“This initiative aligns with China’s “Five Gs” growth strategy, which emphasizes infrastructure, information and communication technology, industry, investment, and import and export.”

He emphasises the role of journalists in shaping public discourse, fostering accountability, and empowering citizens. The Nigerian Union of Journalists expresses its commitment to playing its part in this endeavor.

In his address, Mr. Ndache highlighted the significance of the event, particularly considering the timing with China’s Two Sessions and the upcoming FOCAC summit. He emphasized that China-Africa cooperation is entering a new era, driven by the pursuit of high-quality growth and innovative collaboration.

He emphasized the role of media in fostering dialogue and understanding between China and Africa. He announced VON’s exciting initiative to introduce Mandarin to its broadcast languages. This move aims to bridge the linguistic gap, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen people-to-people ties.

The Director General stressed the importance of leveraging strengths and resources to achieve sustainable development and shared prosperity. He identified areas like trade, investment, technology transfer, and capacity building as holding immense potential for growth and innovation.

The veteran journalist underscored the importance of mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation in navigating the complexities of the global landscape. He believes adhering to these principles will foster a more inclusive, balanced, and resilient partnership, benefiting both Africa and China, and the world at large.

Both countries stand to gain from this partnership. China seeks to enhance its global competitiveness through innovation, while Nigeria seeks to modernize its infrastructure and industries. This initiative exemplifies their commitment to shared economic growth and a prosperous future.
