The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will hold its second extraordinary session for the sixth legislature in Kano, Nigeria, from May 20 to 25, 2024.
The session’s purpose is to consider and adopt the rule of procedure, strategic plan for the sixth legislature, and the 2024 work program.
“This session is crucial in establishing the framework for the new legislature’s operations and ensuring it effectively addresses the needs of the West African region,” said Uchenna Duru-Nwaotule, Head of Communication Division at the ECOWAS Parliament.
Seven regional journalists have been invited to join local media in providing coverage of the session.
This is in line with the Parliament’s commitment to transparency and public access to information.
About ECOWAS Parliament:
The ECOWAS Parliament is the House of representative of the peoples of the Community. It has 115 seats. Each Member State is guaranteed a minimum of allotted five seats. The remaining forty seats are distributed in proportion to the population of each country. Consequently, Nigeria has a total of 35 seats followed by Ghana with eight seats. Côte d’Ivoire is allotted seven seats, whereas Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Senegal have six seats respectively. The remaining ECOWAS Member States, namely Benin, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Togo, have allotted to each of them, five seats.
