TCN Affirms 27 May Timeline For Power Restoration In North-East

By ABAH SUNDAY, Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has stated that it was doing everything possible to ensure the restoration of power supply to the North Eastern axis of the country as earlier indicated.

The company made the affirmation in response to the concerns raised by
the North East Governors Forum (NEGF) at its 10th meeting in Bauchi on Saturday, alleging that the region had been neglected in infrastructural development, even as it lamented the

The group, under the chairmanship of Prof. Babagana Zulum, the Bornu State governor, lamented the power outage which the region has suffered for about a month now, urging TCN to live up to its promise to restore supply in the area by 27 May, 2024.

In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, titled: Re: North East Governors on Blackout, and May 27 Timeline for Power Restoration, TCN acknowledged the challenges and difficulties the situation poses to socio-economic activities in region.

It assured that it will meet the power restoration timeline as its team of engineers were working round the clock to rebuild the four towers earlier destroyed by vandals, which led to the outage.
“Despite the recent increase in vandalism, we have continued to rebuild towers each time they are damaged and have consistently restored supply. The four vandalised towers on the Gombe axis are no exception. Despite our prevailing poor liquidity situation, we have mobilised all necessary resources to ensure this job gets the attention it requires.
“To expedite the work, we have insisted that the contractor put in place and on-site machines that will help increase the fabrication processes of tower members which is ongoing. And the towers are nearing completion, with one tower at 90% completion, another at 80%, a third at 60%, and the fourth at 40%,” TCN explained.

Appealing to the governors and people of the region for patience, TCN said though it is not able to work through the night hours as intended in the area due to security issues, it is hopeful that reconstructing the towers and energizing the line will be completed with the timeframe.
