A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has affirmed the deposition of Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano. The court, presided over by Justice A.M. Liman, ruled that the Kano Emirate Repeal Law 2024 remains valid, effectively upholding the abolition of the five Emirates, including Kano.
“The law is still the law, but actions carried out in the execution of the law are set aside,” Justice Liman stated in his ruling.
The court also granted a stay of proceedings and transferred the case to another judge, Justice Amobeda, effectively barring all parties from enforcing the ruling until the appeal is determined.
This ruling means that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the recognized Emir of Kano, while Aminu Ado Bayero’s deposition stands. The legal battle is ongoing, with the next steps to be determined in the appeal court.
