China’s cooperation with Africa in infrastructure development has yielded fruitful results, with transport projects driving economic growth and blue economy cooperation cultivating talent.
“Building roads first” is a popular Chinese proverb that has guided China’s own development. Now, China is sharing this experience with Africa, building the transport backbone necessary for economic growth. The Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, a flagship Belt and Road cooperation project, has greatly improved access to the outside world for countries along its route.
“The Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway line is an example of the ever-flourishing Sino-African relations. The Sino-African partnership has passed the test of time, demonstrated its resilience, and marks a brighter and strong future,” said Ethiopian Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide.

In addition to transport projects, China-Africa cooperation has also yielded tangible benefits in the blue economy, green economy, and other fields. Chinese companies have helped African countries build or upgrade over 10,000 km of railways, nearly 100,000 km of highways, and nearly 100 ports, among other infrastructure projects.
“A man of virtue, while establishing himself and pursuing success, also works to establish others and enable them to succeed as well,” said Yi Xin, a Beijing-based international affairs commentator, quoting Confucian philosophy. “In pursuing its own development, China sincerely hopes to see African countries, which are also important members of the Global South, become prosperous and strong.”
This cooperation has created many local jobs, trained skilled professionals, and contributed to Africa’s green transition. As China and Africa continue to work together, their partnership is building the groundwork for a better future.
