The All Progressives Congress (APC) has replaced Senator Ali Ndume as the Senate Chief Whip with Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno. The decision was announced in a letter signed by APC National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Senator Ijaya Basiru, and addressed to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
According to the letter, Ndume’s removal was due to his “unbecoming” complaints about President Bola Tinubu and utterances deemed unfavorable to the Federal Government.
“The party has lost confidence in Senator Ndume’s ability to perform his duties as Senate Chief Whip,” said Ganduje. “His constant criticism of the government is not in line with the party’s values and principles.”
Ndume’s replacement, Monguno, represents Borno North in the Senate.
When the request was put to a voice vote by Senate President Akpabio, it was loudly affirmed by all APC Senators present.
“I remain committed to the party’s ideals and will work tirelessly to ensure the success of our great party,” said Monguno in a statement.
The development is seen as a significant shake-up in the APC leadership and a move to consolidate power ahead of future elections.
