Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has aappointed additional 1,075 aides, just hours after announcing the appointment of 195 others, whose portfolios are yet to be assigned. This brings the total number of aides to a staggering 1,270.
According to a statement signed by Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Timothy Gebon Kataps, the new appointees will serve in various capacities, including special advisers, senior special assistants, and members of boards, commissions, and agencies.
While the governor’s office has remained silent on the rationale behind the massive appointments, critics are already raising eyebrows, citing the need to reduce the cost of governance in the state.
“This is a clear case of unnecessary bloating of the government payroll,” said a concerned citizen, who wished to remain anonymous. “At a time when resources are scarce, it’s shocking to see the governor appointing so many aides. What exactly will they be doing?”
The opposition camp has also been reached for comment, but efforts have been unsuccessful so far.
The development has sparked debate on the governor’s priorities, with many calling for a more prudent approach to governance.
“It’s disappointing to see the governor prioritizing political appointments over the welfare of the people,” said another resident of Taraba State. “We expect more from our leaders.”
The governor’s office has yet to respond to these concerns, leaving many to wonder what lies ahead for the people of Taraba State.
