Taraba Governor Pledges Support For Independent, Responsible Press

Jalingo, Taraba State – The Taraba State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a robust, independent, and responsible press. Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, made this pledge during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Radio Nigeria News Summit held at the Patient Event Center in Jalingo.
According to Governor Kefas, “We are committed to supporting initiatives that foster a robust, independent, and responsible press. The news we produce today will shape the narratives of tomorrow, and it is incumbent upon us to ensure that these narratives are truthful, balanced, and reflective of our shared values.”
The summit, themed “News Production in a Transitional Media Landscape,” aims to explore the challenges and opportunities facing news production in Nigeria’s rapidly changing media environment.
Director General of FRCN, Mohammed Bulama, expressed his appreciation to Governor Agbu Kefas for hosting the summit, saying, “The choice of Taraba State can best be described as divine, and I strongly believe that the deliberations of this summit will come up with very positive recommendations that will help reposition the FRCN.”
Bulama emphasized the importance of adapting to technological advancements, engaging with audiences, and upholding ethical standards in news production. He also highlighted the need for innovative financing strategies and professional development to ensure the continued success of quality journalism.
The summit brings together media professionals, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the future of news production in Nigeria and explore ways to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the transitional media landscape.
