Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has vowed to restore the glory of the civil service, describing civil servants as the standard bearers to the success of his administration.
“We can make the civil service come back to where it was in the past years,” Governor Agbu Kefas said at a five-day Professional Development Workshop for Directors in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Jalingo.
He lamented that the civil service in the state has been isolated due to a lack of exposure to advanced civil service, saying, “I watch with tears what is happening in the state civil service.”
The Governor emphasized that the training is part of his administration’s readiness to ensure high-ranking officers are equipped for effective productivity, adding, “You are the catalyst, you are the one to drive the civil service.”
He identified sentiment as the major problem in the civil service, stating, “What we have today in the civil service is whipping. The civil service today is controlled by a few.”
Professor Friday Francis, the resource person from the University of Lagos, said the participants will be drilled on etiquette, stress management, and other crucial issues pertaining to service delivery.
Taraba State Head of Civil Service, Tino Paul Maigida, emphasized the significance of the workshop, saying, “The present government is committed to building an incorruptible culture in the civil service to restore the lost glory in the sector.”
He urged the Directors to support the government’s efforts, saying, “As technocrats, you should do your best to ensure you support the government to succeed.”
