Residents of Taraba State have been encouraged to seize the opportunity of free education at primary and secondary levels, as well as reduced tuition fees at tertiary institutions, courtesy of Governor Agbu Kefas.
This call was made by Rev. Dr. Philip Micah Dopah, Leader of the Southern Conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC), during the 2024 annual Gospel Singers Convention held at the Southern Conference Campground in Marraba Appawa, Lau Local Government, Taraba State.
“Governor Agbu is a blessing to Taraba State, and all he needs is our continued prayers and support to enable him to complete his good works for the people of Taraba,” Rev. Dopah said. “I urge us to maintain the peaceful coexistence amongst Christians and the Society. I also encourage all members to preach and live in peace.”
The Conference Chairman, Evang. Daniel Bolki Simon, welcomed members and expressed gratitude for their impressive turnout despite economic challenges. He encouraged Gospel Singers to engage in farming, business, and financial self-reliance activities, emphasizing the need for sustainability and development programs.
“The Gospel Singers recorded significant progress during the year under review,” Evang. Bolki said. “We must continue to support the Church and its policies, emphasizing commitment to sustainability and development programs.”
In his paper titled “Sustainability,” guest speaker Rev. Zaro Clarkson Kwah stressed the importance of members engaging in business ventures, avoiding idleness, and eschewing extravagant spending. He emphasized that sustainability is crucial for the growth and development of the Church and its members.
The occasion also featured the dedication of a video and audio CD, “Bazamuyi luwadi ba,” by Markus J. Sori, highlighting the conference’s focus on education, sustainability, and spiritual growth.
As Rev. Dopah noted, “Let us take advantage of this opportunity to educate ourselves and make a positive impact in our communities. Governor Agbu’s initiative is a blessing, and we must make the most of it.”
The event underscored the conference’s commitment to education, sustainability, and spiritual growth, inspiring attendees to embrace these values and make a positive impact in their communities.
