Ronaldo and Messi’s Goal-scoring Records Challenged: Three Players Who May Have Scored More
For years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been regarded as the greatest goal-scorers in football history, with impressive records of 900 and 839 goals respectively. However, according to the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF), there are three players who may have scored more goals than the legendary duo.
“Goal-scoring is an art, and these players have mastered it,” said RSSSF spokesperson. “While Ronaldo and Messi’s records are impressive, we believe that these three players may have achieved even more.”
First on the list is Ronnie Rooke, an English forward who played for clubs like Arsenal and Fulham between 1929 and 1961. With over 900 goals in 1030 appearances, Rooke’s record is certainly impressive.

“Rooke was a prolific goal-scorer, and his record speaks for itself,” said football historian, John Smith. “He was a true legend of the game.”
Next is Joseph Bican, an Austrian striker who played alongside greats like Pele and Romario. RSSSF estimates that Bican scored an astonishing 950 goals in his career.
“Bican was a goal-scoring machine,” said former teammate, Franz Beckenbauer. “He had a knack for finding the back of the net.”
Finally, there’s Erwin Helmchen, a German striker who played for PSV Chemnitz and scored over 980 goals in 582 appearances.
“Helmchen was a phenomenon,” said German football legend, Gerd Muller. “His goal-scoring record is truly remarkable.”
While these records may be subject to debate, one thing is certain – these three players have left an indelible mark on the beautiful game.
“Goal-scoring is what makes football so exciting,” said RSSSF spokesperson. “These players have inspired generations of footballers, and their records will continue to be celebrated for years to come.”
