ECOWAS Deploys Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission to Senegal

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission is set to deploy a Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission to Senegal from October 14 to 18, 2024, ahead of the country’s Legislative Elections on November 17, 2024.
Statement from Communication Division of the Commission explained that “This mission is in line with Article 12 of the Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance and Article 53(c) of the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework.

The team will be led by Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, and will include Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development, Mrs. Janira Hopffer Almada, former Member of Parliament and leader of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde, electoral experts from Togo, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire, and ECONEC representatives.
The statement further added that, “the mission aims to assess the pre-election environment and provide an objective report. This effort reaffirms ECOWAS’ commitment to promoting democracy, peace, and stability in the region.
