Former NIALS DG Azinge, Takes Reins as 14th Asagba
Former Director General of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS),  Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has been crowned the 14th Asagba of Asaba kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria.
This historic event took place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Asagba palace, with prominent figures in attendance, including former Governor Chief James Ibori and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
In his acceptance speech, Azinge expressed his gratitude to the people of Asaba, saying, “On the 18th of August in this hallowed palace, Asaba overwhelmingly voted me to step into the shoes of my forebears as the 14th Asagba of Asaba. They saw in me the qualities of a king fit enough to step into the shoes of my predecessor, the 13th Asagba of Asaba.” He also promised to make justice and fairness the mantra of his leadership, vowing never to betray the trust of his people.
Azinge succeeds the late Professor Chike Edozien, whom he described as a father figure. Louis Edozien, who handed over the sacred ancient authority to Azinge, expressed optimism that the new monarch would bring wisdom, good character, and strong relationships to the Asagbaship.
As the 14th Asagba, Azinge has pledged to uphold and promote Asaba’s culture and traditions, foster unity and inclusivity, and work towards establishing a federal university in Asaba. With his wealth of experience as the former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Azinge is well-equipped to lead his people towards a brighter future.
The coronation ceremony marked a new era for Asaba kingdom, and its people look forward to Azinge’s leadership in promoting development and progress.
