Tragedy struck in Lagos last night when two passenger boats collided and capsized at Imore Lagoon, resulting in the loss of at least 20 lives.
The boats, each carrying 16 passengers, sank after the collision which occurred around 7 pm
According to Police Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, 11 passengers were rescued, but unfortunately, all 32 passengers and their goods initially drowned before the intervention of the police, local divers, and other emergency responders.

Those rescued were rushed to the Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for medical attention, with ongoing search and rescue operations for the remaining victims.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has yet to comment on the incident. The police have also confirmed that the boats were unregistered and that a report about the accident was made at the Ilashe Police Division.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin stated, “It took the intervention of the police, local divers, and other emergency responders to rescue the 11. Those rescued had injuries and were rushed to the Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for medical attention, adding that search and rescue operations were ongoing for the remaining victims”.
