Gufwan Receives 4-year Assessment Report On Disability Inclusiveness in Nigerian Policies

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Chief Ayuba Gufwan recently in Abuja received the report on the state of Disability inclusiveness around government policies in Nigeria from the Disability Civil Rights Movement, and Policy Changers.

The Document which chronicled the activities of several disability Pressure Groups and their efforts towards the signing of the Disability Act into law in 2018, equally had some prayers aimed at improving the overall advancement of the living conditions of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.

Addressing the press, the Executive Secretary promised to consider the Report clause by clause and to take appropriate actions for the betterment of the lives of the 35.5 million Nigerians with disabilities.

“We are delighted to receive this report and I promise to do the needful in order to advance the course of the disability community in Nigeria” he pledged.

Gufwan also seized the occasion to inform that the rate of ill-health in the country keeps increasing which is also proportional to the record of disabilities from time to time.

In addition, he emphasized on the need to plan alongside the growing population of Nigeria which is estimated to be above 250million in the next 10 years.

Earlier in his presentation, the Convener, Pioneers of Nigeria National and International Disability Civil Rights Movement and policy changers, Dr. Job Napoleon Agbor expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary for his open door policy. He described him as a man with total humility and passion to serve humanity.

“I am so delighted to be here today to formally present the report of our findings over the years to you for a better administration in the next four years” he said.

Agbor, however, reiterated that the aspirations of over 35.5 million Nigerians with Disabilities are yet to be met.

He then used the platform to appeal to the Federal government to increase the budgetary allocation of the Commission to take care of the rising population of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
