Social activist and former Senator in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has advised on President Bola Tinubu to advocate for imprisoned Nigerians in the United States.
Following Tinubu’s recent phone conversation with the US President Joe Biden, the lawmaker via his X handle on Wednesday suggested that Tinubu should now urge Biden to release Nigerians incarcerated in the US on humanitarian grounds.
“I suggest that next week our President should also call the US President so that imprisoned Nigerians who commit offences in the US can also be released on humanitarian grounds.”
He added, “What is good for Binance is good for Nigerians in US Jails.”

This call follows Tinubu’s Tuesday discussion with Biden, where both leaders covered significant topics including security collaboration and Africa’s potential representation on the United Nations Security Council.
According to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the conversation included the release of Tigran Gambaryan, Head of Finance Crime Compliance for Binance, currently detained in Nigeria.
Tuggar had noted, “The call focused on cooperation between the two countries on law enforcement and the release of a key cryptocurrency exchange suspect.”
Tinubu had reportedly thanked the US for its security support, especially in West Africa, while Biden acknowledged Africa’s strategic role globally, indicating possible support for a permanent African seat on the Security Council.
Biden had reportedly affirmed, “The United States is committed to supporting Africa’s representation on the Council, and Nigeria is a potential candidate.”
