Kogi State’s Auditor General for Local Government, Hon. Yakubu Adabenege Siyaka, today urged newly elected local government chairmen, directors of local government (DLG), and treasurers to emulate Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Addressing the officials in a maiden meeting held in Lokoja, Adabenege emphasized the importance of financial discipline and strict adherence to financial guidelines.
“This meeting is critical to ensuring that local governments manage their finances prudently and in line with established regulations,” he said, highlighting the need for efficient use of public funds.
The Auditor General also extended congratulations to the newly elected chairmen, praising Governor Ododo for respecting the will of the people and promoting local government autonomy.
Adabenege noted that the state had already embraced local government autonomy under the previous administration of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.
In his address, Adabenege underscored the significance of complying with financial procedures to maintain transparency and accountability, which he identified as essential components of good governance.
He encouraged the local government officials to use the autonomy granted by the federal government as an opportunity to drive development and foster growth in their respective areas.
The Director of Audit Services also stressed the need for collaboration between local government chairmen and civil servants to ensure a harmonious working relationship that supports effective governance.
Hon. Olokun Tosin, Chairman of Yagba East Local Government and ALGON Chairman of the State, expressed appreciation for Adabenege’s proactive engagement and committed to ensuring adherence to the financial guidelines provided.
“The best way to reciprocate Governor Ododo’s good work is to deliver quality governance to our people,” Tosin stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Aliyu Musa, the DLG of Lokoja and Chairman of the Association of DLGs and Treasurers of Kogi State, also praised Adabenege for his foresight and assured that the state’s leadership would continue to live up to the expectations of the people.
