6 Brigade Holds Peace Meeting With Stakeholders In Karim Lamido LGA

By Emmanuel Awari, Jalingo

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with local stakeholders in Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA), has convened a high-level peace meeting aimed at enhancing security during the ongoing harvest season and ahead of the festive period.

The meeting, held on November 20, 2024, at the LGA Secretariat, was presided over by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS). This was disclosed in a statement issued by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, in Jalingo.

The forum brought together diverse interest groups, including tribal and religious leaders. General Uwa emphasized the critical need for peace and stability in Karim Lamido, citing its strategic importance due to its vast landmass and proximity to Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Adamawa, and Plateau States.

“Peace is non-negotiable for the progress of Karim Lamido and its environs. We must foster collaboration between the people, their leaders, and security agencies to protect lives and property effectively,” Uwa said.

He urged the LGA Chairman, Hon. Britus Danjos, to bolster security awareness campaigns and integrate local vigilantes and hunters into the security framework under strict supervision. Uwa also proposed the establishment of a neighborhood watch system to complement existing security measures.

Community leaders were called upon to provide actionable intelligence to security agencies, with assurances of confidentiality in handling such information.

Hon. Britus Danjos commended General Uwa for his proactive leadership in addressing security challenges in Taraba State. He pledged the LGA’s full support for the initiatives outlined during the meeting.

In addition to the forum, General Uwa paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Chief of Wurkun, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Haruna, at his palace. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peace and stability in the area. The traditional ruler expressed appreciation for the Brigade’s efforts and assured the cooperation of traditional institutions in supporting security initiatives.

The 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS reiterated their dedication to collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to maintain peace and security in Taraba State and neighboring regions.
