The Rights Enforcements and Public Law Center (REPLACE) a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), has taken its sensitisation campaign on educating women and vulnerable groups to the Mile 12 Market in Lagos.
The exercise done with support from the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme is focused on educating women and vulnerable groups with knowledge of their legal rights
The campaign which had its first leg in the Ipodo Market, Ikeja witnessed huge support from the Mile 12 market women and its leaders.
Speaking with news men during the exercise, Mrs felicitas Aigbogun-Brai, Executive Director (ED), REPLACE, said the essence of the programme was to educate women and vulnerable groups on their legal rights and the provisions of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).
According to Aigbogun-Brai the initiative seeks to address misconceptions about the ACJL as well as equip residents with tools to assert their rights, particularly in their interactions with law enforcement agencies.
“The program is designed to raise awareness about the ACJL which has been in effect since 2015 and amended in 2021.
“It is particularly to equip women with knowledge of certain sections of the ACJL which talk directly about their rights like Section 118 which allows women to stand as surety in the courts or police station.
“And also Section 144 which states that a married woman can own properties in her own name among others.”
