EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has declared that the fight against corruption is difficult but ultimately winnable. Speaking at the End of Year Engagement/One-Year in Office of the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Olukoyede emphasised the crucial role both commissions play in combating corruption in Nigeria.
“We can guarantee you, despite the criticisms, we are doing the most important job in Nigeria, apart from that of the president,” Olukoyede said, highlighting the significance of their work. He also stressed that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility, requiring collaboration among all stakeholders. “No secret agency can say no, we need to work together…because if you work in silence, you can’t go anywhere.”
Olukoyede’s sentiments are echoed in the EFCC’s efforts to collaborate with other agencies, such as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing compliance. The EFCC Chairman also underscored the importance of asset recovery and conviction in the fight against corruption, emphasising the need for clarity and cooperation between the EFCC and ICPC.
In his speech, Olukoyede also shared a humorous anecdote about his reputation, chuckling that “somebody said…your name will be in all the shrines in Nigeria.” Despite the challenges, Olukoyede remains committed to the fight against corruption, and his goodwill message underscores the significance of collaboration and cooperation in achieving this goal.
Under Olukoyede’s leadership, the EFCC has been working tirelessly to combat corruption, with a focus on preventive measures, technological innovations, and international collaboration. The commission has also been engaging with various stakeholders, including students and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), to promote awareness and support for the anti-corruption campaign.
