Okpella Community Takes Proactive Steps to Enhance Road Safety at Ewo Market
By Omonu YG Nelson
The Okpella community in Edo State,, is taking proactive steps to reduce accidents at Ewo Market, thanks to the efforts of the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, HRH Engr. Akemokue Lukman.
Following his address on the issue, significant developments have been made to ensure the safety of market-goers. For instance, estimates for speed bumps on the expressway and corrugated iron fencing of the market have been completed, courtesy of Dele Ezckiel, a renowned quantity surveyor. This generous contribution is expected to reduce accidents and provide a safer environment for traders and customers.
To further enhance safety, provisions have been made for Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers to be deployed along the road from Kafayat Petrol Station to New Danco Petrol Station on market days. This move aims to control traffic and slow down vehicles approaching the market, further reducing the risk of accidents.
The Okpella community is also leveraging its pool of professionals to contribute to its development. The New Okpella Project, envisioned by HRH Engr. Akemokue Lukman, focuses on putting “square pegs in square holes” for the benefit of all. This collective effort is expected to bring about positive change and growth to the community. As Samson Omosotomhe (PhD), Strategic Communication Assistant to the Okuokpellagbe-in-Council, aptly puts it, “With Collective Efforts, A New Okpella Is Possible!”
These initiatives are crucial in reducing accidents and promoting road safety. According to experts, education and awareness campaigns, strict law enforcement, and advanced driver training are also essential in preventing road accidents. By adopting these measures, the Okpella community can create a safer environment for its residents and visitors.
