The Dean of Cabinet, Southern Conference of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Dr. Philip Micah Dopah, has called on Christians to embrace hope, humility, and compassion as they celebrate Christmas.
Speaking at the United Methodist Church (UMC) Cathedral in Mayo Gwoi, Jalingo, during a service themed “The Gift of Hope,” Rev. Dopah highlighted the importance of reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas.
“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us not forget the true essence of Christmas,” he said. “Jesus came to bring hope to a world filled with darkness and despair. Let us emulate his humility and selflessness and strive to be beacons of hope to those around us.”
The cleric reminded worshippers of the values embodied by Jesus—compassion, kindness, and selflessness—urging them to make a positive impact within their communities.
The service was marked by vibrant celebrations, including special musical renditions from various church groups, which added joy and color to the occasion. Members exchanged gifts, symbolizing unity and love within the congregation.
“As the United Methodist Church family, let us hold on to the hope and promise that Christmas brings and share it with others,” Rev. Dopah concluded.
The event served as a poignant reminder of the light, peace, and salvation heralded by the birth of Christ, inspiring attendees to carry these messages into the New Year.
