Shun Partisanship For Unity— Kogi Deputy Gov Urges Traditional Rulers

By Abah Benjamin Eneojoh

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu, has called on traditional rulers across the state to remain impartial in the discharge of their duties, warning that partisanship could disrupt peace and harmony within their communities.

Speaking during an address to traditional rulers in his hometown, Ejule, Kogi State, Comr. Salifu emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions as custodians of peace and unity.

He urged them to avoid political affiliations and maintain neutrality, likening their position to that of civil servants who are required to show loyalty to any administration in power.

“Traditional rulers are the closest authorities to the people and are expected to uphold peace within their kingdoms,” he stated.

“Those who engage in partisan politics often sow seeds of discord and instability, which this administration will not tolerate.”

The Deputy Governor reassured the gathering of the state government’s commitment to fostering unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Kogi.

He called on the traditional institutions to collaborate with the administration of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo in advancing development initiatives for the benefit of their people.

Comr. Salifu also announced plans to establish a committee focused on promoting unity within the Igala kingdom, as part of efforts to strengthen ties within the state.

In his remarks, the Ejeh Ankpa and Chairman of the Ankpa Area Traditional Council, HRH Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Ahmed Yakubu II, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for his visit and commended the government for its strides in governance.

He praised the administration’s efforts in improving civil servants’ welfare, addressing pensioners’ benefits, and delivering infrastructural development.

While reaffirming the neutrality of traditional institutions, the Ejeh Ankpa called for sustained collaboration between the government and traditional rulers to enhance the well-being of their subjects.

He expressed pride in having Comr. Joel Salifu as Deputy Governor, describing him as a worthy son of the Igala kingdom serving under a performing administration.
