At least nine persons have been killed in a clash that occured in two communities of Miga and Jahun LGAs, Jigawa state.
Four persons were severely injured during the clash.
In a statement, Lawan Adam, Jigawa police spokesperson, said the clash started on Friday when a group of persons broke into a shop at Gululu village in Miga LGA and stole some items.
Adam said the villagers who are from the Hausa ethnic group traced the thieves to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.
The police spokesperson said on sighting the villagers from Gululu, persons from the camp started shooting arrows at them, which injured four persons.
He added that the villagers retreated and mobilised themselves against the Fulanis in the two LGAs.
“Unfortunately, nine (9) bodies were recovered. The corpses were ferried to Jahun and Miga Hospitals, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed their deaths,” the statement reads.
“The Jigawa state commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi alongside area commander Dutse, assistant commissioner of police, department of operations, mobile policeman commander EOD, and other senior officers were equally visited the scene of crime.
“A stakeholder meeting was immediately convened, attended by the Jigawa state speaker, chairmen of the two LGAs, district heads, Miyetti Allah leadership, and vigilantes.
“The meeting was centered on maintaining law and order, avoiding violence, propaganda, and reprisal attacks.
“In the meantime, patrols are being stepped up in the general area to prevent further break down of law and order.
“The situation has been brought under control. An investigation is currently underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
