A 32-year-old sex worker, Riyanatu Musa, has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a bartender, Yohanna Musa, to death over a dispute involving a N200 debt.
The incident, which occurred in Mubi, shocked residents and sparked conversations about the rising cases of violence over trivial disputes.
According to the police, Riyanatu Musa confessed during interrogation to having stabbed Yohanna in the chest after a heated argument over the balance of N200 for liquor she had purchased.
Spokesperson for the police in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, revealed that the suspect narrated how she had bought two bottles of dry gin, popularly known as “Big Ben,” and promised to pay the full amount the following day.
While she had already paid N1,500, Yohanna demanded the remaining N200, leading to the tragic altercation.
“She explained that the fight ensued when the victim persistently demanded his money, and in the heat of the moment, she grabbed a knife and stabbed him. The bartender, who sustained a deep wound in the chest, died at the scene,” Nguroje disclosed.
The police have since launched a full investigation into the matter, assuring the public that justice will be served.
The shocking incident has sparked widespread reactions across Adamawa State, with community leaders and residents expressing concern over the rising cases of violence fueled by minor financial disputes.
Many have called for increased efforts to address the underlying social issues contributing to such incidents, including poverty, alcohol abuse, and mental health challenges.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody, awaiting prosecution.
